The shortage of specialty care in the Sanilac County area can cause a number
of issues and, in most cases, the patient is the one that is impacted
the most. When a referral is made to specialists outside of the region,
it can add a burden to the patient, including extra travel time, expenses,
and quite often the need for assistance with transportation. At McKenzie
Health System, we utilize the latest technology to address those issues
and better care for our communities.
The following medical specialty clinics offer patient consultations, in-office
procedures, and/or surgical procedures in Sandusky:
Allergy/Immunology: This specialty focuses on the treatment of health conditions that affect
the immune system, such as asthma, rhinitis, sinus conditions, or seasonal
allergies, as well as potentially life-threatening reactions to allergens
such as drugs, food, or vaccines.
Cardiology: The heart is one of the body’s most important organs, and our cardiologists
are board-certified in the treatment of heart conditions and diseases.
Dermatology: The skin is the body’s largest organ, and it’s important to
keep it healthy over your lifetime. Our dermatologists are well versed
in medical and cosmetic dermatology.
ENT: Otolaryngologists, better known as “ENTs,” treat the conditions
affecting the ear, nose, and throat, as well as the head and neck.
Family Healthcare: A skilled family medicine provider is the best choice to treat every member
of your family, and they can also refer patients to other specialists
as needed.
Gastroenterology: This branch of medicine focuses on the digestive tract and disorders that
affect it. You may need to see a gastroenterologist if you have any number
of digestive conditions.
General Surgery: McKenzie General Surgery is prepared to serve you and your family providing

Intensivist Service: McKenzie Health System has taken steps to bring specialty care to the
hospital campus. What does this mean for the community? It means, in more
cases, patients can remain close to family and friends while they receive
treatment and recover. This is being done through a partnership with Equum
Medical. Equum Medical's Multi-Specialty Telehealth service provides intensivists
who are board-certified physicians trained to care for critically ill
patients. Their mission is to deliver comprehensive remote consultative
healthcare across various medical subspecialties, enhancing access to
specialized care, optimizing resource utilization, and reducing unnecessary
transfers and care delays. Through standardizing care protocols, reducing
unnecessary transfers, and avoiding delays in care due to lack of access,
Equum Medical provides expert care with diagnostic testing and treatment
options for patients. This approach enables emergency departments to improve
patient outcomes, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall quality of care.
Ophthalmology: Eye doctors treat conditions and diseases affecting the eye, as well as
helping patients see more clearly.
Orthopedics: These doctors are experts at treating conditions that affect the musculoskeletal
system – namely, the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons,
and connective tissues.
Pediatrics: Your child should have a pediatrician as soon as you welcome them to the
