McKenzie Health System is proud to announce the addition of Magnetic Resonance Enterography (MRE) to the growing list of advanced studies available through its Wide Bore Mobile MRI Scanner. This non-invasive imaging technique offers a highly detailed look at the small intestine to help diagnose and monitor a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions.
MR Enterography is especially useful for identifying Crohn’s disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, irritation, abscesses, tumors, blockages, and small tears in the small bowel. It uses magnetic resonance imaging technology to provide exceptional soft tissue detail, without exposing patients to ionizing radiation.
“Our wide bore MRI scanner not only offers greater comfort for patients, but now with MR Enterography, we can provide even more specialized imaging services close to home,” said Jay Smith, Director of Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiopulmonary at McKenzie Health System. “This advanced scan gives healthcare providers critical insights into inflammatory bowel diseases and other digestive health concerns.”
How It Works:
Prior to the scan, patients drink a special contrast liquid to expand the small bowel for clearer imaging. During the MRE, additional contrast may be administered through an IV to enhance the detail. The entire procedure is designed to be safe, comfortable, and non-invasive.
Key Benefits of MR Enterography Include:
- No radiation exposure – safer for long-term monitoring
- Wide bore scanner design – providing a less restrictive, more comfortable experience
- High-resolution images – for detecting inflammation, strictures, fistulas, abscesses, and more
- Better treatment planning – helping doctors monitor disease progression and response to therapy
MR Enterography is recommended for patients with suspected or diagnosed Crohn’s disease, unexplained GI bleeding, or when complications like strictures or small bowel tears are suspected.
