McKenzie’s Lunch and Learn Workshop Highlights “What our ER can do for You”

When emergencies happen, it’s comforting to know that McKenzie Health System has an excellent ER right in our own backyard! But, when should you go to the Emergency Room, and what services does it really provide? Come and learn about McKenzie’s ER from experts Patty Schafsnitz, RN, Director of Nursing, and Mark Hamed, MD, MBA, MPH, Medical Director, Departments of Emergency Medicine & Hospital Medicine, at the Lunch and Learn Workshop on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, from Noon to 1 p.m., in the McKenzie Health System Dining Room. Lunch and Learn is a community education series held on the third Wednesday of the month. The cost for the workshop is $5, and lunch is included in the price. Pre-registration is required by calling 810-648-6117 or emailing publicrelations@mckenziehealth.org.

“Some of us have heard comments like this from family and friends: “Why go to McKenzie ER? They can’t do anything for you; they just ship you out,” reports Louise Blasius, LMSW, LPC, Director of Human Services at McKenzie Health System. “But, that’s not accurate. While it’s true that some patients may have to be transferred to a larger facility, the time spent at McKenzie being evaluated and stabilized in those first few minutes and hours of an emergency is critical to the patient’s overall treatment and recovery. In addition, McKenzie has relationships with many different healthcare facilities so, if patients need to be cared for in a specialty hospital, McKenzie professionals can make sure they get transferred to the right place in the right way for the right treatment.”

Dr. Hamed and Patty Schafsnitz will be able to talk to attendees about all the services McKenzie provides and answer questions from the audience in a relaxed, personal atmosphere. In addition, attendees will be able to enjoy a delicious, healthy meal. It’s a great way to spend lunchtime. Blasius reminds interested attendees, “Because our dining room has limited seating, pre-registrations for the March 18 Lunch & Learn Workshop are required by calling 810-648-6117 or emailing publicrelations@mckenziehealth.org. We hope to see you there!”
