Title: Medical Administrative Assistant (MAA) – Rural Health Clinic

Status: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Hours: Day shift. However, position may require evening and weekend hours. Hours may be variable to meet office/patient needs. Location may be variable. Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands.

Qualifications/Position Requirements

Education/Experience

  • High School Graduate or equivalency, required.
  • Previous Medical Administrative Assistant experience in a Healthcare office, or equivalent, preferred.
  • Previous experience working with general public, required.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Knowledge of computer use in scheduling, billing, and word processing preferred ability to utilize software to produce 98% accurate documents.

Licensure/Certification

  • Certification as Medical Administrative Assistant, or equivalent, required within 3 months of date of hire.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, providers and other support personnel.
  • Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committees as requested.
  • Influences the direction of the specialty clinic by maintaining composure, excellence and a positive perspective/attitude.
  • Ability to promote and adapt to change in order to remain current with standards of practice and services in the specialty clinic setting.
  • Evidence of a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty and positive attitude.
  • Knowledge and ability to learn the safe use of various office equipment.

Role/Position Definition:

Schedules and registers patients in computer system; answers telephone promptly and courteously; obtains and verifies patient and guarantor demographic information; obtains and verifies patient’s insurance information including co-pays; requests and records patient payments; balances and prepares deposit slip; completes forms as appropriate; receives and answers charge/billing related inquiries. Assist with checking in/out patients as well as escorting patients to exam rooms, obtaining and documenting patient information, prescriptions, and H and P entry. Provides clerical, secretarial and receptionist support for the clinic and other diverse duties as requested.
