Licensed/Registered Respiratory Therapist (ROC)

Department: Cardiopulmonary

Hours: ROC- Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy. Weekend and Holiday Rotation may be required.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

  1. Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapist program, required.
  2. Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy preferred, Associate of Science Degree, minimum.
  3. Two years of recent Respiratory Therapist experience in a hospital setting, preferred.
  4. BLS Certification required; ACLS Certification preferred.
  5. Knowledge of basic Anatomy & Physiology and related sciences.
  6. Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians and all other support hospital personnel
  7. Ability to promote and adapt to change in order to keep current with respiratory care duties.
  8. Appreciation of and desire to be part of a health care team dedicated to providing the community and patients optimal care and superior service.
  9. Evidence of a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty and a positive attitude.
  10. Evidence of good mental and physical health, professional conduct, and good hygiene.
  11. Ability to read and write the English language.

Certifications/Licensures Required:

  1. Registration with the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  2. Current License - Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan.

Job summary:

Under general supervision, performs respiratory care related procedures in accordance with physician’s treatment plan and established policies and procedures. Assesses patient’s condition, administers prescribed therapy and aerosolized medications, observes and records patient’s progress and response to therapy modalities including adverse reactions to drugs and therapy; Draws and analyzes arterial blood samples; Mechanical ventilator management; Performs EKGs; Performs basic pulmonary function testing/evaluation; Applies event monitors; Applies and downloads data from Holter Monitoring systems; Assists with stress testing; Communicates effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians and other system employees as needed, regarding patient care needs; Checks equipment regularly for proper functioning.
