Dr. Jermaine Als Joins McKenzie Health System, Bringing Podiatry Care Closer to Home

McKenzie Health System is expanding specialty care close to home with the launch of McKenzie Podiatry, welcoming Jermaine Als, DPM, to provide foot and ankle care throughout Sanilac County. Beginning early September, Dr. Als will see patients at McKenzie locations in Sandusky, Peck, Croswell, and Port Sanilac, with surgical services based at McKenzie's Main Hospital Campus in Sandusky.
Dr. Als earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Independence, Ohio, and completed a three-year residency at Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago. He trained in multiple hospitals and surgery centers under more than 60 attending physicians. His background spans foot and ankle reconstruction, trauma, wound care and limb salvage, and complex deformity correction, with particular interest in caring for patients with diabetes and others at elevated risk for foot complications.
“Foot and ankle problems can affect nearly every part of a person’s daily life, from their ability to work to simply staying active and independent,” said Dr. Als. “My goal is to provide care for the full range of foot and ankle concerns while also helping patients understand how they can protect their foot health for the future.”
McKenzie Podiatry will treat a wide range of conditions, from heel pain, bunions, and arthritis to injuries, wounds, and diabetic foot care. With services now available in four communities, patients have greater access to specialized treatment without traveling far from home.
“Adding podiatry is another way we can meet the healthcare needs of our communities and provide more specialty services locally,” said Heather Baumeister, Director of Healthcare Practices. “We’re excited to welcome Dr. Als to McKenzie and offer patients thorough foot and ankle care while keeping them connected to the health system and providers they already know and trust.”
As part of McKenzie Health System, McKenzie Podiatry connects patients with a broader network of services, including diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, primary care, and specialty care.
Dr. Als will begin seeing patients in early September at McKenzie Rural Health Clinic in Sandusky, Peck Medical Center in Peck, Croswell Clinic in Croswell, and Lakeshore Internal Medicine in Port Sanilac.
