Healthy Living Together Series Focuses on Emergency Preparedness and Safety

McKenzie Health System will continue its 2026 Healthy Living Together series with a practical session focused on skills and information that can help individuals respond during an emergency. The next event, “Stop the Bleed, Hands Only CPR, & Home Firearm Safety,” will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Lanes, 100 Kristian Drive, Sandusky, MI 48471. A virtual option will also be available for those who wish to participate remotely.

The session will feature three presenters sharing expertise in different areas of emergency response and safety: Morgan Fraley, BSN, RN, a Stop the Bleed Specialist; Melissa Govea, an American Heart Association CPR Instructor; and Steve McKenney, Sandusky Chief of Police.

Participants will learn about steps they can take when faced with serious bleeding, the basics of Hands Only CPR, and important considerations for firearm safety in the home. Together, the topics are designed to provide practical information that can help community members feel better prepared to respond when an emergency occurs and take steps to help keep their homes and families safe.

“Emergencies can happen anywhere, and knowing what to do in those first few moments can make an important difference,” said Nina Barnett, McKenzie Public Relations and Foundation Coordinator and Healthy Living Committee Chair. “This session brings together three important areas of safety and gives community members an opportunity to learn practical information from local experts.”

The Healthy Living Together series provides free, monthly educational opportunities designed to support the health and wellness of individuals and families in Sanilac County and beyond. Each session is offered in person from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., with a virtual option available.
