Sanilac County, Mich. – McKenzie Health System recently made a $2,500 donation to the Sanilac Career Center to support the purchase of a new bariatric nursing manikin for the school’s Health Occupations Lab.

This advanced manikin, which represents a 350-pound male patient, will allow students to train for more realistic patient care scenarios, including the unique challenges associated with bariatric or obese patients. The manikin provides opportunities to practice a wide range of essential skills, such as range of motion exercises, perineal care, lifting and transferring patients, identifying pressure injuries, conducting skin assessments, reading blood pressure, and more.

“This manikin offers my students the ability to experience patient care in a much more realistic way and prepares them for the specialized care required for bariatric patients. He will be a valuable asset to the program!” shared Andrea Long, Health Occupations instructor.

McKenzie Health System’s contribution reflects a long-standing collaboration with the Sanilac Career Center to inspire and equip the healthcare workforce of tomorrow.

“We are proud to support the important work being done at the Sanilac Career Center,” said Carrie Krampits, Director of Human Resources at McKenzie Health System. “From offering hands-on learning opportunities to helping students understand the many career paths in healthcare, this partnership continues to be an investment in the future of our local workforce. This manikin will provide valuable experience for students as they build the skills and confidence they will need in the real world.”

The manikin will be incorporated into hands-on instruction at the Career Center, enhancing the learning experience for students pursuing careers in healthcare.
