McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarship Awarded to Local Students

Family Nurse Practitioner Nicole Krosnicki, DNP, FNP-C; Sarah Leen; Abigail Meyer; and Family Nurse Practitioner Megan Burgess, MSN, FNP-C.

Supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals, McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarships were awarded to local students interested in pursuing healthcare professions. Both students received $1,000 scholarships.

Sarah Leen graduated from Sandusky High School and plans to pursue pediatric nursing with possible future studies, including pursuing her degree as a physician assistant or nurse practitioner. In high school, Sarah was active in HOSA-Future Health Professionals and will be competing at nationals this year, was a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Council, volleyball, competitive cheer, track, and multiple volunteer activities. She completed the Health Occupations Program at the Career Center while being dual enrolled at St. Clair County Community College. Sarah also completed the Health Occupations Program for CNA at the Career Center.

Abigail Meyer graduated from Marlette High School and is planning to pursue a career specializing in pediatric oncology. She participated in a number of sports in high school, including soccer, track and field, softball, cheer, and cross country. She was also Class President and participated in 4H, Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, HOSA-Future Health Professionals, band, and multiple volunteer events. Abigail also completed the Health Occupations Program for CNA at the Career Center.

The McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarships are awarded annually to Sanilac County graduating high school seniors entering an accredited college or university and planning to become a healthcare professional. Selection criteria are based on academic achievement, community service, and accomplishments.

“We are so honored to have the opportunity to meet the next generation of healthcare professionals and to learn about the future goals,” said Kristie Morgan, MSN, FNP-C, Nurse Practitioner at McKenzie After-Hours Clinic and member of the McKenzie Medical Staff Scholarship Committee. “As providers, it is extremely rewarding to see them pursuing careers in healthcare. Congratulations to Sarah and Abigail, we wish them the best!”
