McKenzie Offering Covid-19 Virus & Antibody Testing/Sanilac Pharmacy Offering Vaccine Clinics

In support of the health of the community, McKenzie Health System continues to offer Covid-19 PCR (virus) testing, antibody testing, and vaccines. With fall approaching, flu vaccines have been added to the list. With so much information available in regards to the virus and antibody tests, as well as available vaccines, it is important to understand the purpose for each of these and how to access what is needed.

The PCR nasal swab tests and the antigen tests are the most accurate and reliable at diagnosing the Covid-19 virus. Anyone concerned about current symptoms or who requires a test for work, medical procedures, travel or a recent exposure can schedule an appointment by calling 810-648-3770. Appointments are available Monday through Friday, starting at 10:30 a.m. and take place as a drive-through in the McKenzie Health System Ambulance Bay. Antigen testing is available at the McKenzie After-Hours Clinic and at McKenzie family healthcare clinics by appointment.

Antibody tests are used to identify people who were previously infected with the COVID-19 virus, helping to pinpoint those who previously had the virus and now have antibodies against it. Antibody testing is available by getting an order from your primary care provider and taking it to the MHS Outpatient Services. The Ortho Anti-SARS-CoV-2 test, which is available at MHS, has achieved 100% specificity and 100% sensitivity for the COVID-19 virus and has been validated through a number of studies. The test for antibodies is done by having blood drawn. An analysis of the blood will show if a person’s body has responded to the virus by producing antibodies.

Sanilac Pharmacy will be holding “Walk-In” Vaccine Clinics at their location, which is 78 S. Elk Street in Sandusky. All 3 Covid-19 vaccines, which include Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson, will be available, as will the flu vaccine.
