McKenzie Laboratory Receives CAP Accreditation

McKenzie Health System (MHS) recently earned the prestigious College of American Pathologists (CAP) Laboratory Accreditation, considered the “gold standard”, following its onsite inspection. According to CAP, the “Laboratory Accreditation Program is unlike any other. It’s an engaging, dynamic, collaborative experience that fosters continuous improvement with a focus on laboratory medicine and technology as well as the regulatory landscape”. The MHS Lab has received this accreditation for over 20 years and this current award is in place for the next two years.

“We are incredibly proud of our lab team for being recognized by this true industry-standard of outstanding performance and care,” said McKenzie Health System Lab Director Nate Petrie. “This rigorous review program covers best practices from more than 500 pathologists on running an outstanding laboratory, and we appreciated the opportunity to showcase McKenzie’s exceptional laboratory programs and work.”

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program follows checklists that provide a clear roadmap for laboratory excellence and covers quality control, records, safety, staff qualifications, equipment, overall management of the lab, and more. It is designed to help labs maintain the accuracy of test results and ensure accurate diagnoses, meet standard requirements from certifying and regulatory bodies, manage rapidly evolving changes in laboratory medicine and technology, and exchange ideas and best practices.
