Surgical Service Tech (FT)

POSITION POSTING: Surgical Service Technician/Scrub Technician

Department: Surgical Services

Status: Full Time. Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands; Must be able to work flexible hours; Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.

Hours: Primarily day shift; Occasional afternoon shift may be required; Requires on call rotation.

Role/Position Definition: The Surgical Service Technician assists with all phases of surgical room procedures, including room set-up and take-down and assisting the surgeon intraoperatively; The surgical room technician also functions as a member of the Central Supply Room team, keeping hospital departments supplied with sterile materials and supplies as needed.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High School graduate or equivalency.
  • Certification as Surgical Technologist
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Previous Central Supply and/or Surgical experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of principals and practice of asepsis as it applies to the surgical room and central supply.
  • Knowledge of various steps of different operations to be able to anticipate surgeons’ needs.
  • Knowledge of proper handling of tissue specimens, cultures, and smears.
  • Good understanding of various instruments used for each type of operation and proper setup of surgical service room.
  • Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology.
