Nutritional Food Service Cook

DEPARTMENT: Nutrition/Food Services

STATUS: Full Time (40 hours) Temporary

HOURS: Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands; must be able to work flexible hours and weekend/holiday rotation. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.

ROLE/POSITION DEFINITION:

Under the supervision of the Nutrition/Food Services Director, performs a variety of duties such as preparing hot and cold food for patients, families, staff meals and special events; cleaning; storage of food, supplies and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS/PERSONAL SKILLS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Previous food service experience in a health care setting preferred
• Ability to communicate fully in the English language
• Training in food management, diet therapy preferred
• Certification in “ServSafe,” preferred
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians and other support personnel
• Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committees as requested
• Ability to follow a series of instructions accurately
• Ability to operate or learn to operate various kitchen equipment and cash register
• Simple math concepts to include counting and measuring/weighing portions.
• Maintains a positive perspective/attitude
• Subject to variances in temperature (refrigeration units, heat from stoves and ovens)
• Exposure to dishwasher chemicals and nutrition/food service appliance cleaners.
• Some exposure to clinically infectious disease during indirect contacts in patient units.
