McKenzie’s November Lunch and Learn focuses on American Diabetes Month

Lorraine Drake, RN, CDE, Diabetes Education Coordinator at Marlette Regional Hospital and McKenzie Health System, and Sandra Martin, RN, McKenzie Health System Geriatric Nurse, will be the featured speakers at the November Lunch and Learn workshop. In recognition of November as American Diabetes Month, they will make a presentation entitled “Take Care of You.” The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, 2016, from Noon to 1 p.m., in the McKenzie Health System Dining Room. Lunch and Learn is a community education series held every third Wednesday of the month. The cost for the workshop is $5, and lunch is included in the price. “Diabetes is a significant health issue in the US,” reports Louise Blasius, LMSW, LPC, Director of Community and Human Services at McKenzie Health System. “At this month’s Lunch and Learn workshop Ms. Drake and Ms. Martin will be educating the audience on the following important topics:

  1. Learning about diabetes
  2. Knowing your diabetes ABCs. (A1C, BP, Cholesterol)
  3. Learning how to live with diabetes, including meal planning and activity levels
  4. Obtaining routine care to stay healthy.”

“Ms. Drake will also present a short version of the Tai Chi for Diabetes program that may be available to the public in the spring”, adds Blasius. “We hope community members will take advantage of this valuable workshop which will be presented in a relaxed, informal atmosphere, with questions welcomed. In addition, attendees will have a delicious and nutritious meal.
