Facilities Management Assistant (FT)
TITLE: Facilities Maintenance Assistant DEPARTMENT: Facilities Management
STATUS: Full Time - 40 hours per week
HOURS: This position is Monday – Friday, afternoon shift from 3:00pm – 11:30pm. Requires rotating of on-call for weekdays, weekends, holidays and after hours, and call in for snow removal. Requires weekendand holiday on-duty rotation. Must be able to work independently on a variety of shifts. Low Census may be required in response to workload demand.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Facilities Management Manager, this position is responsible for performing a wide range of preventative, routine, and urgent maintenance and repair services across all MHS properties. This includes general work in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems and equipment (non-patient care), as well as general carpentry, landscaping, lawn care, and snow removal duties. In addition to maintenance responsibilities, this role will also provide security responsibilities such as responding to events requiring additional assistance, safety measures throughout the properties, de-escalation, etc. The role supports the safety, functionality, and appearance of the facility, ensuring a secure and aesthetically pleasing environment for staff, visitors, providers, and patients. Duties are carried out in a professional, customer-focused manner and in accordance with predictive and productive maintenance practices. Although most work is performed indoors, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Travel to various off-site hospital buildings may be required. The position also involves the proper use of departmental equipment and the consistent delivery of high-quality workmanship in a collaborative team environment.
QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High School graduate or equivalent, required
- Previous experience in facility management is desirable.
- Ability to work individually and in a team setting
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
1. Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
PERSONAL SKILLS
- Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend and move about freely for a considerable amount of time (about 90% of shift).
- Must be able to routinely lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to speak and understand the English language. Ability to read and write and ability to communicate with customers/vendors.
- Must be able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and be able to work effectively with providers, hospital personnel and support agencies.
- Must have strong self-management, time management and organization skills.
- Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to handle competing deadlines. Must be flexible and adaptable (open to change).
- Ability to effectively handle difficult and sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
- Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committees as requested.
- Demonstrates ability to follow directions and perform duties as assigned.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure and excellence in the delivery of services.
- Ability to apply the principles of excellence and quality services in the Facilities Management Department.
- Evidence of a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty and positive attitude.
- Knowledge and ability to learn the safe use of equipment used in the department.
