Helping one local student pursue her higher education dreams, McKenzie Health System recently awarded its McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, to Samantha Orchard of Sandusky. Orchard plans to attend Grand Valley State University to obtain a degree in biomedical sciences in her pursuit of becoming a doctor.

The McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarships are awarded annually to Sanilac County graduating high school seniors entering an accredited college or university and planning to become a healthcare professional. Selection criteria are based on academic achievement, community service and accomplishments.

“We are thrilled to play a small part in helping Samantha with her college education, and are pleased to be able to support local students who have a passion for healthcare,” said Dr. Michael A. Merkler, McKenzie Health System Chief of Staff. “We wish Samantha the absolute best as she pursues her goals for the future.”
