The Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) program of Marlette Regional Hospital and McKenzie Health System, as affiliates of United Healthcare Partners, invites Thumb Area residents living with diabetes to take advantage of an educational opportunity that can assist them in managing their condition and overall health.

The Diabetes Self-Management Essentials 201 Course is a new, 2½ hour refresher class that is taught by a registered nurse, certified diabetes educator, and registered dietitian. This refresher class is intended for diabetic patients that have completed 10 hours of DSMT education. Course topics will include healthy eating for weight loss, medication and insulin use, evaluating blood glucose results, and much more!

Classes are scheduled for March 28th from 1:30 – 4 p.m., June 6th from 6 – 8:30 p.m., and September 12th from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. This event will be hosted at the MRH East Campus in Marlette, located at 2861 Main Street. A guest is welcome to attend with participants and refreshments will be provided. Please register in advance as limited seating is available.

The cost associated with DSMT programs and refresher classes are covered by most insurance companies, but co-pays and deductibles may apply. Attendees should call their insurance company to verify coverage for education. A referral by a primary care provider is required to attend this class.
