Healthy Lifestyle Presents July Workshop: Blanching and Freezing

Sandusky, Mich. – Learn how to preserve food easily and safely on Monday, July 27, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. in the McKenzie Health System Dining Room, 120 N. Delaware St., Sandusky. The instructor will be Laurie Messing, MSU Extension.  Due to limited seating, pre-registration is required by calling Nina Barnett at McKenzie Health System, 810-648-6127.

“As thoughts turn to gardens overflowing with shiny, red tomatoes, and bright green peppers, or farmers markets filled with fresh produce, we want to show people how easy it is to preserve. Why not save some of this bounty to enjoy all through the year?” declares Messing. “Canning, freezing and drying are the three main methods for preserving food, but food preservation is a science and we must be sure to properly preserve food or dangerous bacteria can be present in the food and cause foodborne illness. Join us to learn safe freezing techniques and valuable resources to ensure the safety of your home preserved food.”

“This FREE class promises to be both informative and fun!  Not only will attendees go home with a new skill, all participants will have a chance to win a door prize!” invites Louise Blasius, Chairperson of the Healthy Lifestyle Project and McKenzie Health System Social Worker. “This is one of a series of 11 free workshops that we are holding in 2015 in partnership with MSU Extension and the Sanilac County Health Department.  Topics throughout the year cover a variety of healthy living topics.”
