Paramedic (ROC)

Title: Paramedic

Department: Sanilac Ambulance

Hours: ROC- Flexible hours required. Requires weekend and holiday rotation. Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands.

Qualifications/Background Requirements

  1. High School Graduate
  2. Completion of an approved Emergency Medical Technician Licensing program and fulfillment of periodic relicensing requirements.
  3. Valid Michigan Drivers License
  4. Current Michigan Paramedic License with required renewals
  5. Current ACLS, BLS and PALS Certification with recertification as required
  6. Current Critical Care Certification, EPIC (Enhanced Paramedic Interfacility Care) or equivalent to be obtained within 3 months of hire.
  7. One year of Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic experience, preferred.
  8. Knowledge of current Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic standards of practice.
  9. Knowledge of current Sanilac County EMS protocols, required.
  10. Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians and all other support hospital & external personnel.
  11. Ability to function in a leadership position by: Serving as a resource person and assuming leadership role in emergency/crisis situation
  12. Ability to influence the direction of professional Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic practice by maintaining a positive perspective/attitude and participation in the promotion of change to keep current with Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic profession.
  13. Organized and has the ability to manage multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure and excellence in the delivery of Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic services.
  14. Exemplary critical thinking, and technical skills essential to job.
  15. Ability to provide and promote excellence in the delivery of services to both internal and external customers.
  16. Desire to be part of a health care team dedicated to providing the community and patient’s optimal care and excellent service.
  17. A sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty and a positive attitude.
  18. Good mental and physical health, professional conduct, and good hygiene.
  19. Ability to communicate in speech, reading and writing in the English language
  20. Computer skills desired.

Job Summary

With limited supervision and broad general direction, the primary responsibility is to provide Advanced Emergency Medical Services to patients at a level commensurate with Paramedic licensure status, according to pertinent standards of care, medical control authority standards and hospital policy. In addition, the Staff Paramedic will provide care within their defined scope of practice under the direction of the McKenzie Health System Hospitalist and/or RN within the hospital setting. Communicates with other employees, department directors, physicians and professional staff at various health care facilities during delivery or pickup of patients; Has frequent direct patient contact and frequent contact with other Emergency Response members, Medical Control Authority and bystanders, friends, families, etc.
