McKenzie Recognizes March as National Reading Month with Coloring Contest

Heather Baumeister, RN, Director of Healthcare Practices.

In commemoration of National Reading Month this March, McKenzie Health System is thrilled to host a community-wide coloring contest, highlighting the significance and joy of reading skills, especially among young learners. March marks National Reading Month, coinciding with Dr. Seuss' birthday, aiming to inspire people of all ages to embrace daily reading habits.

All McKenzie family healthcare clinics will participate in this fun coloring event, offering prizes through random draws from submissions at the month's end. "Reading unlocks boundless opportunities, regardless of age," shared Heather Baumeister, McKenzie Health System's Director of Healthcare Practices. "We embrace the opportunity to honor National Reading Month annually, urging our community to encourage reading in the lives of the young people that are part of their world."

The coloring contest welcomes participants up to 10 years old, and entries can be submitted anytime during March. Coloring sheets are accessible for download at www.McKenzieHealth.org/2024-Color or can be obtained from any McKenzie healthcare facility in Croswell, Peck, Port Sanilac, or Sandusky. Entrants can share their completed works via www.McKenzieHealth.org/2024-Color, with submissions showcased on the McKenzie Health System Facebook page. Winners will be chosen through random selection. For additional details, contact 810-648-6117.

Demonstrating a year-round dedication to promoting literacy, numerous McKenzie family healthcare providers participate in "Reach Out and Read," a national initiative encouraging reading readiness among children. Through this program, providers distribute books to patients aged six months to five years, fostering family reading sessions.

Moreover, the Sanilac County Community Foundation collaborates with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, ensuring every child in Sanilac County receives free books from birth to age five. Parents can register at www.imaginationlibrary.com to receive monthly, age-appropriate books mailed directly to their children, free of charge.
